20 Years of Cigars & Conversations

conversations
Interviewing celebrities was never at the forefront of what we set out to do as a publication in 2006. We were  focused on speaking to cigar makers, tobacco growers, and retailers. But along the way, we’ve had the opportunity to smoke with personalities that were so passionate about cigars that we couldn’t help but share those conversations with you. The following is a collection of quotes from some of our favorite conversations.

“If you’re having the worst day of golf ever and you’ve got a great cigar and good friends, it’s no longer the worst day of golf ever.”

“The texture of the tobacco as well as the texture and the viscosity of the smoke is very important to me. But a mild cigar is my preference because it doesn’t interfere with my palate too much. Because of what I do, I want to make sure I don’t have a cigar hangover.”

“A good cigar is heaven. I think that’s the bottom line. The pages of a book or a script read much richer when I’ve got a cigar in my fingertips”

“I like to sit down with good people and have great conversations with great sticks. The whole culture of cigar smokers, I like the people. They’re calm. They’re intelligent. [We have] meaningful conversations.”

” I was very clear that I didn’t want a celebrity

branded cigar. I didn’t even care if my name was on it. It [is] the way I also see myself in the food industry, in that you do it your own way in your own style as great as you can and believe in what you say and do.”

“Of course, if I’m going to be honest, I don’t spend a lot of time in the fairway. I spend a lot of time in the rough. [laughs] So having that cigar kind of makes golf a little easier.”

“I enjoyed the ritual first, and then I began to learn about the product second. That’s probably not the best way to go about it, but the ritual was what attracted me.”

“After almost every game, we had a cigar. It was me and a couple of coaches, maybe a few players. Win, lose, or draw.”

“If an accomplishment is big enough, a cigar celebration is done by default. I probably smoke cigars less than anybody in the band, and that’s when I’m thinking, ‘I would like to have a cigar right now.”
