Santana Cigars Debuts with the Santana San Andres

Santana Cigars

Santana Cigar Co., a new brand featuring a Cuban heritage, makes its debut with the Santana San Andres.

The box-pressed San Andres features Dominican corojo and criollo filler and Sumatra binder housed in Mexican San Andres wrapper. The blend comes in a 5 x 52 Robusto ($12), a 6 x 52 Torpedo $13) and a 6 x 54 Toro ($13). The blend is out of Tabacalera William Ventura located in the Dominican Republic.

Company president Andy Santana brings with him the love of tobacco that was instilled in him by his grandfather Manuel Montero, a cigar roller in Havana who served as a role model for Andy. His adolescent years were filled with trips to farms in Pinar del Rio, the epicenter of Cuban premium tobacco.

Escaping communist Cuba in 1990 at age 13 Andy Santana landed in Miami. and was reunited with his grandfather who came to the U.S. at an earlier date.  Andy earned a degree from Florida International University and opened several successful businesses outside of tobacco. Andy eventually purchased Absolute Cigar Shop, a cigar lounge in Brickell-Miami. Its success allowed him to open a second location in Little Havana, and, finally, Santana Cigars.

The Santana San Andres blend is a collaboration between Andy and Master Blender William Ventura.
