The flavor and aroma wheel below was designed as a simple aid in identifying flavors and aromas in cigars. The idea was to keep the flavors and aromas as simple as possible while going deep enough to be effective. The flavor and aroma notes have been grouped in general categories; Wood & Plants, Herbs & Spices, Earth, Nuts, Fruit, Breads & Cereals, Sweets, Chocolate & Coffee, and Others.
If you are new to this practice, keep it simple at the start. Take a puff of your cigar and pick an easy category like; Chocolate & Coffee. Do you taste or smell any chocolate? If so, what kind of chocolate? Is it milk chocolate or dark chocolate? How intense is it? Does it linger after you exhale the smoke?
