Lone Wolf

Originally co-founded in 1996 by Chuck Norris – yes, that Chuck Norris – Lone Wolf has grown into one of the most respected cigar retailers in the industry. Along with the selection of almost every popular cigar brand
on the market, their flagship
store in Santa Monica also contains some
impressive
proprietary blends. Its ideal location on Broadway allows for a showcasing of brands not commonly found in other retailers.
The shop itself is very well
appointed, and features some seriously cool sliding glass windows that bring the outside in. The humidor is a perfectly maintained 500 square feet, and quite the site. This company has had a rich cigar history, and we’re confident the new spot in the works by owner David Weiss will be just as special.

The Big Easy

There’s no mistaking this spot for anything but a purveyor of fine tobacco when you see the huge neon signs out front. The lights almost pull you into the retro-themed lounge where one can choose from over 90 different brands in 400 various shapes and sizes. The décor takes you back in time to the ‘50s, and the humidor can only be described as stellar. The word “sanctuary” seems fitting as you get the sense of being tucked away in your own private smoking escape. All the while, cigar lovers travel from everywhere to fill this Studio City retailer. Since 1994, this place has matured into a cigar destination that screams passion and love for our favorite leaf.

Lordsburg Cigar Lounge

This comfortable lounge is the premium cigar retailer in the small affluent city of La Verne, set just a short ride east of downtown L.A. The shop is well worth the drive, as it offers an impressive 300 boxes of cigars in its walk-in humidor. These range from larger well-known brands to more boutique labels rarely stumbled across. Plush seating fills the two smoking areas, where guests can watch flat screens or simply converse and relax within the casual atmosphere. If you’re so inclined, there are also private lockers offered for rent. Lordsburg has an American retro theme we enjoy, which is cemented by the hot rod photos peppered throughout.

Malibu Cigar Lounge

Inevitably, the time will come when you find yourself driving up the Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu. Take a minute from enjoying the gorgeous views and swing by this cool tobacco hangout. You’ll step right into a small but nicely furnished smoking area featuring a walk-in humidor, which protects quality brands like Oliva, Tatuaje, Rocky Patel, and Davidoff, to name just a few. A short hallway displaying local art leads to another smoking area with big leather couches and plasma TVs. The lounge is available for parties, and after stopping in, you might just want to share this place. The laid back beach vibe was carefully crafted with the art and real surfboard in the corner, and we think it really works! You can almost feel the sand between your toes as you puff away.

Grand Havana Room

Luxury rules at this members-only club, and the attention to detail is remarkable. The leather, fabric and wood that make up the comfortable surroundings make this every smoker’s ideal high-end haven. The liquor choices seem limitless as well, as are their prices. The humidor is an expansive glass enclosure, and the nameplates on the lockers read like a list of Hollywood’s “who’s who.” We met up with Daniel Marshall, whose name you recognize from his acclaimed humidors and cigars (especially that Gold Cigar!). We highly recommended Grand Havana’s delicious spicy tuna tartare

Buena Vista Cigar Club & Lounge

As would be expected from its Beverly Hills location, this is one of the nicest cigar lounges in the city. It’s crisply clean and styled with a perfect balance of tobacco décor and high-class furnishings. Expect a full-service experience from the moment you’re handed an iPad to choose from the numerous scotches and sipping rums available. You’ll find steeper prices all around, but you’ll understand why when you see only top quality cigar accoutrements within reach. The vibe stays refined at all times, and you’ll often rub shoulders with some of L.A.’s upper crust. Do yourself a favor and visit this classy spot for a single malt or craft beer, and of course, an ultra premium smoke.

2nd Street Cigars

This shop shares the same amenities as most fine tobacco establishments, a solid cigar selection, private lockers, and a well-appointed lounge, but it does so with its own style. This place is as much art gallery as it is smoke shop, and features new collections from local artists every month. Prices are reasonable, and the passionate staff make recommendations from years of experience. They host events frequently, but if you happen to miss one, you can chat it up with some of the ever-present regulars. Who knows, with a shop like this, you might soon become one!

Diplomat Cigars

Its storefront is reminiscent of so many traditional shops across the country, but has a bit of an East Coast feel. Although comfort is a major priority here, make no mistake that this place is serious about its smokes. The service is excellent, and the staff will ensure that you’ll be lighting up the perfect cigar for your tastes. That shouldn’t be too difficult considering the selection is diverse and thought through well. Once you make your pick, grab a seat in one of the throne-like chairs or simply walk around and explore. Due to it being downtown, the crowd is eclectic and the conversations often get lively. You may even see someone grab the classical guitar in the lounge and start strumming away. We think you’ll agree that this low key space is the epitome of a neighborhood cigar shop.

Smoking’s Fine Cigars

Tucked away nicely in the Ladera Heights neighborhood, this shop has in a short time built a strong following. We totally understand why as the service is outstanding, the cigar deals plentiful, and the atmosphere pleasant. The humidor is not huge but is certainly well stocked with sought after brands, and the house blends are truly something special. The shop has undergone a recent renovation, so you’ll find every amenity needed to unwind and enjoy a quality smoke. The locals who frequently visit will be quick to tell you how much they enjoy the lounge and how the area has been craving this exact style of quality tobacconist for some time.
