Nat Sherman’s brand overhaul

Net Sherman has unveiled the results of its branding overhaul. The company has consolidated its product portfolio, bringing everything under three core brands: Metropolitan, Timeless and Epoca. Blends will remain the same, but packaging has been updated to reflect the new strategy.

The Metropolitan brand will be home to Nat Sherman’s most traditional premium cigars. It will feature three primary blends — Metropolitan Connecticut, Maduro and Habano — along with the Host and Host Maduro blends. Nat Sherman’s tinned pipe tobaccos will also be part of the Metropolitan brand.

“Timeless is a diverse collection of the company’s most inspired and award-winning blends,” according to a Nat Sherman press release. The Timeless brand will feature more unique blends that bring together tobaccos of various origins, varieties and vintages. The Timeless lineup includes Prestige (formerly Timeless Dominican), Supreme (formerly Timeless Nicaraguan), Sterling and Panamericana. The company’s “Nat’s cigarillos” are now branded as Timeless cigarillos.

Finally, there’s the Epoca brand, which made its comeback in the U.S. in 2014. Considered a "Clear Havana", it was originally made in New York City using Cuban tobaccos and a domestic wrapper. Today’s Epoca draws its inspiration from that old brand.

"This realignment of our cigar brands offers a clearer picture of how our collection of products fit together." said Michael Herklots, vice president of retail and brand development.  “Our manufacturing partners and blends all remain unchanged and as great as ever."

Schrader Cellars and Nat Sherman collaboration to ship later this month

Schrader Cellars, which produces Cabernet Sauvignons out of Napa Valley, announced the release of the Limited Edition Schrader MMXIII Cigar. It’s the winery’s second cigar (the first was the Schrader Doco-Est MMIX, which was released in 2010). The Schrader MMXIII was created with guidance from Nat Sherman’s Michael Herklots at the Quesada Cigars Factory in the Dominican Republic.

The Schrader MMXIII, nicknamed “Sparky Two,” combines fillers from Nicaragua, Peru and the Dominican Republic with a Dominican binder and wrapper. The perfecto is 6 inches long, with a 42-ring-gauge open foot, and expands to 60 ring gauge at its center before tapering back to a 38 at the cap.

“This format provides a profound platform for development of flavor and aroma, much like how a wine can change in the glass, and throughout the bottle,” said Michael in a press release.

The cigars will ship to members of the Schrader mailing list May 10. On May 17, they’ll be made available at the Nat Sherman Townhouse and other retailers that carry Nat Sherman products. The 2,500 six-pack boxes will be priced at $84 each.

Nat Sherman Panamericana now available in three new vitolas

Nat Sherman’s Panamericana went from being an exclusive of the Nat Sherman Townhouse in Manhattan to being available at TAA-member stores last year. The 48th Annual Tobacconists Association of America (TAA) Convention & Tradeshow—which began in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on March 6—will mark the debut of three new vitolas for the line: Robustico (4 x 54), Belicoso Fino (5 ½ x 52), and Gordo (6” x 60). That brings the total number of Panamericana formats to seven.

Just like other Panamericana formats, these will be packaged in 10-count boxes and have a retail price tag of about $10 to $12.

Panamericana’s blend includes tobaccos from Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Ecuador. The cigar is manufactured in Estelí, Nicaragua by the Plasencia family.

“The Panamericana is a very exciting blend that we felt strongly about debuting in very traditional sizes,” said Nat Sherman’s Michael Herklots in a press release. “However, after working closely with our retail partners over the past year, and listening to their feedback, it was clear we needed to offer these more current and popular formats as well.”
