A BLEND OF NICARAGUAN FIRE AND DOMINICAN FLAIR 

AVO Syncro Nicaragua starts stimulating the back area of the palate with complex spicy and peppery flavours evoking a wild character at the beginning due to the pronounced Nicaraguan and Peruvian filler tobacco.  

In the second third the cigar becomes smoother, from being peppery and spicy to creamy with complex wooden, sweet and floral flavours followed by rich aromas. There is a cheerful harmony between the Nicaraguan and the Dominican Mejorado tobaccos that are tamed by the creaminess of the Ecuadorian-grown wrapper. The Danno is set to kick off with an exclusive event series hosted by Nestor Miranda

(Miami, Florida) June 1, 2015— Miami Cigar & Company proudly announces the unveiling of the much awaited “Nestor Miranda Collection Danno” cigar. The Danno is a limited edition off-shoot, of the Nestor Miranda Collection which pays homage, to Nestor Miranda’s late son, Daniel Luis Miranda, who passed away in 2008.

The 2015 NMC Danno, which will be unveiled through a sneak peak “event series,” will fall in-line with the newly rebranded Nestor Miranda Collection. ESPINOSA CIGARS TO RELAUNCH MURCIELAGO

 

Hialeah Gardens, Florida (May 22, 2015) - Six years after its initial release, Erik Espinosa of Espinosa Premium Cigars has announced that the "Murcielago" will fly again and should be landing in humidors nationwide after it is re-debut at the 2015 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show in July. 

The Murcielago (which is Bat in Spanish) was first released at the 2009 IPCPR by EO Brands.  It had a short production run due to the split with the original makers of the blend.  "Once the partnership with the manufacturer dissolved, we kept the name, but they kept the blend" says Espinosa.  Shortly thereafter EO Brands (Erik and his partner Eddie Ortega) went their separate ways with Erik keeping the rights to Murcielago in hopes of re-launching the brand. 

Says Espinosa, "It was one of my favorite cigars.  It took us three years, but myself along with my staff, painfully dissected all the Murcielagos we could find, tasting test blend after test blend until we got it right.  We couldn't rush it, there weren't that many surviving Murcielagos out there to begin with but we managed to reverse engineer the cigar.  I am very happy with the results and to me they are even better than the originals, because I am making them myself in my own factory at La Zona in Esteli, Nicaragua."

The Murcielago logo and band have been modernized with a sleeker look and a cutting edge box design; the cigar itself remains a medium to full-bodied blend that is semi-box pressed and wrapped in a beautiful Capa Negra Wrapper from Mexico with Nicaraguan filler.  The initial release will be in three vitolas, the Noir (5 x 52), the La Lune (6-1/2 x 54) and the Nocturne (5 1/2 x 56).   Pricing will be announced prior to the IPCPR.

The blend is constructed almost entirely of American grown tobacco including a broadleaf wrapper, binder and filler, along with a maduro filler tobacco from Pennsylvania. One leaf of the six-year-old, bourbon barrel-aged Corojo tobacco was added to the recipe and is the main component that amplifies the complexity of the blend.

To intensify the launch of American Barrel-Aged, a full nationwide road tour is in the works and will kickoff with a weeklong extravaganza at Corona Cigar in Orlando starting on June 8th. Each of the American Barrel-Aged launch events will span across three days and are limited to a group of twenty-five hand selected retailers. The grand finale event will be held at Tampa Humidor in Tampa, FL on December 19th where the tour will come to a close.

Davidoff to open new flagship store in Tampa

 

Davidoff of Geneva USA is teaming up with Jeff & Tanya Borysiewicz ofCorona Cigar Company (one of central Florida’s largest tobacconists) to open a flagship Davidoff store in Tampa. It is Davidoff’s first licensed flagship store outside of Las Vegas. The 5,000-square-foot store will be the largest Davidoff flagship store in the world.

“We are delighted to open a new ‘Davidoff of Geneva – since 1911’ store in our home market,” Jim Young, president of Davidoff of Geneva North America said in a press release. “We are particularly excited to do this in partnership with Jeff and Tanya who have been outstanding Davidoff partners for quite some time.”

The store will be completely humidified, with multiple lounges, an outdoor seating area, private lockers, and a full bar.

The store is scheduled to open later this year.

Viva Republica announces limited-edition Jailbreak cigar

 

Jason Holly, president of Viva Republica, has announced the launch of a new, limited edition cigar named Jailbreak.

The cigar, measuring 6 x 58, has two wrappers (Dominican Corojo and Ecuadorian Habano), an undisclosed double-binder, and a filler that features 10 different tobaccos. What separates this cigar from the others, according to a press release issued by Viva Republica, is that there’s a fully rolled and aged lancero in the center of each cigar (although, at 6 inches in length, that core cigar is really more of a petit lancero).

“Jailbreak is a new concept in where a lancero is buried inside of a 6 x 58 cigar trying to escape,” said Holly in the press release. “I decided to create this unique cigar in dedication to my stepfather who recently retired as a superintendent of the Dallas State Correctional Institution.”

Viva Republica is releasing a total of 300 20-count boxes of Jailbreak, which is set to retail at $12.50 per cigar. Jailbreak will be shipping later this week.

Jailbreak will be made available through Miami Cigar & Co., the American distributor of Viva Republica.

 

2015 brings new proposals to encroach on cigar rights

 

At the beginning of every year, state legislatures convene to discuss legislation for the rest of the year. Many of the introduced bills directly affect consumers, manufacturers and retailers of premium cigars.

A number of the bills threaten to further restrict smoking rights.

There are smoking bans and ban extensions being considered in the following states: Alaska, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

Tax increases are on the table in Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Wyoming.

In Oregon, legislators are considering prohibition on the imposition of local taxes on tobacco products.

Meanwhile, other proposals offer hope for reduced government intervention in your humidor.

The definition of a premium or large cigar, as well as the tax cap, is being discussed in Hawaii.

In Washington and Nebraska, the issue of licensure for premium cigars and premium bars is also a key issue.

Finally, West Virginia has proposed a bill that allows only elected officials to regulate the use of Tobacco.

General Cigar has announced that Punch Rare Corojo will debut with two new vitolas for retail on Feb. 16, 2015.

El Diablo, a 6 1/2 x 66 cigar, is a permanent new item for the Punch Rare Corojo collection. It will be packaged in a traditional wooden cabinet-style box and sell for an MSRP of $8.25 per cigar.
Rare Lapiz is the brand’s limited-edition cigar, launching side by side with El Diablo. The 6 3/4 x 56 cigar will sell for $7.99 each and come in a 10-count box.

CAMACHO RETURNS FOCUS TO THE ORIGINAL BOLD SMOKE

– Two new line extensions added to flagship Corojo line –

PINELLAS PARK, FL (JANUARY, 21 2015) –– Camacho, the worlds leading brand of bold cigars, is returning focus to its flagship Corojo line under a new campaign called “The Original Bold Smoke”, which officially kicks off on February 1st. Over the years, Camacho Corojo has been honored by industry publications with dozens of 90+ ratings, including numerous “Top 25” acknowledgments, since its launch back in June 2000.

Two new line extensions will accompany the launch of “The Original Bold Smoke” campaign, which are set to ship nationwide throughout the month of January. The new Corojo Gordo (60 x 6), the most popular format and bestseller under the Camacho brand, began shipping on January 15th and the new Corojo Robusto Tubo 20’s, which will begin making their way to stores on January 27th.

First developed in the 1930’s and 1940’s at the famed “El Corojo” farm by Diego Rodriguez, the Corojo seed came to be while looking to improve the quality of Criollo crops. He did so by crossing Criollo with a strain from Sumatra. The resulting seed, Original Corojo, was to establish itself as the exclusive wrapper grown for Cuban cigars since 1948. The development of Corojo restored order in a mosaic of tobacco seeds that had prevailed since the end of the 19th century and came to be known as the finest tobacco ever grown in Cuba.

Since its development and through the Cuban revolution, the famed Corojo seed thrived and continued to gain global notoriety. It was until 1978, when a widespread devastation of blue mold hit the island, that the story of Original Corojo and tobacco in Cuba begins to take a different course. After the attack of ’78 – ‘79, the Estacion Experimental del Tabaco (San Juan y Martinez) begins to develop disease resistant hybrids, 208 new strains to be exact. However, only two made the cut and are known today as Havana 92 and Havana 2000. With new hybrids in hand, Cuba bid farewell to the famed seed and in 1996 the last crop of Original Corojo touches Cuban soil.

Cuba’s famed seed was smuggled off the island and taken to a remote farm in the rugged and dense jungle of the Jamastran Valley in Honduras, where Original Corojo is still grown today. Cuba’s legendary taste, preserved and protected for over 40 years, can still be experienced in its purest form by reaching for a Camacho Corojo. Through the painstaking work and uncompromising values of those who continue to preserve and protect the Corojo seed, Cuba’s original bold smoke continues to live on.

A Churchill Joins the Cause of Cigar Rights

One cannot even hear the name Winston Churchill, without having an immediate vision of the former Prime Minister with a cigar. He embodied the symbol of strength and resolve in time of war and peace, held an unyielding commitment to liberty and democracy, all while a cigar was never more than an arm’s reach from his pen or pistol.

Now, his legacy continues with Randolph L S Churchill, the great-grandson of Winston Churchill. At a recent event in New York City, hosted by CRA corporate benefactor Davidoff, USA, Randolph Churchill accepted a Lifetime Membership in Cigar Rights of America, and embraced the cause of promoting the work and mission of CRA. He stated,

“It is difficult to think of my great-grandfather, Winston Churchill without a cigar.  His love for great cigars spanned a lifetime, and he enjoyed them wherever he was, whether at home painting, or on the battlefield. I imagine he would be sad to find his enjoyment of them curtailed by regulation. I am proud to now be called a Lifetime Member of Cigar Rights of America, and would hope that all who share this noble indulgence can recognize that enjoying a cigar is truly a moment to enjoy one’s own liberty.”

Davidoff announces Room 101 Master Collection Three

Room101 to release final Master Collection in February

LOS ANGELES, CA – JANUARY 15, 2015 – Room101, the Los Angeles based luxury lifestyle brand owned by Matt Booth, has announced the final chapter of its super-premium Master Collection Series, the new Master Collection Three. The first edition, Room101 Master Collection One, which debuted in late 2013, was awarded back-to-back 90-point ratings by Cigar Aficionado Magazine.

The new Master Collection Three will begin shipping nationwide on Monday, February 9th and is set to retail from $8.00 to $12.00 per cigar. This edition will be available in five formats: Papi Chulo (42 x 4), Roxxo (48 x 4), Mutante (38 x 7), Sucio (48 x 7) and Monstro (60 x 5). Only 500 boxes of each Mutante, Sucio and Papi Chulo will be produced, while the Roxxo and Monstro will have 1,500 boxes per format.

All Master Collection editions carry a distinct Sakura mark, which symbolizes the “short, yet beautiful life” of Japanese Cherry Blossoms. The new Master Collection Three is packaged in white, piano finish boxes and contain either 20 or 50 cigars depending on the format.

The blend is comprised of tobaccos from three different countries; a Habano wrapper from Ecuador, binder from the Dominican Republic and filler tobacco from two growing regions in Nicaragua.

“I was never short on inspiration for this blend, but it was challenging. The one thought I kept having was, what does ‘the end’ taste like? After about 7 months of going back and forth, I found what I felt was the perfect taste to close out what has become my favorite collection to date. The cigar is medium intensity and very balanced. As with all Master Collection blends, the experience is designed for those with a more refined palate. The depth of flavor Master Collection Three offers is nothing short of amazing,” said Matt Booth.

Hamlet was previously the Head of Operations at Tabadom Holding in Santiago de los Caballeros in Dominican Republic where the Dominican own brands Davidoff, AVO, Cusano, Griffin’s, Private Stock, Zino and Zino Platinum of Oettinger Davidoff AG as well as some select third brands are produced.

Caldwell Cigar Co. announces “Nothing You Ever Heard Of” cigar limited to 49 retailers

4 Months+1Week prior to 18 May 1868 / The Honeycomb Hideout Caldwell Cigar Company has announced the debut of their first limited edition to mark their one year anniversary. The project has been in the works since the early fall and they are in their final stages. The cigars were made in December but will need to hibernate through the winter. They are set to ship in May. The name of the brand has not yet been disclosed, but for the time being the company is referring to the brand as ‘Nothing You Ever Heard Of’.

It will debut in a very small run of 500 10 count boxes. They will be made available to a very select group of retailers. Caldwell has said that that group is not to exceed 49 merchants nationwide. “We are initiating a group called the First 49”, Caldwell says. “This select group will consist of the first 49 retailers that supported and continue to support this venture. We are releasing this product only to them. As we continue to release products in the coming years, these retailers will have first dibs on these releases”. Due to the tiny production of this limited release, all of the First 49ers may not even have a crack at it. We are limiting stores to 10 boxes each. The exception will be the launch partners, who will have access to 30 boxes a piece for the launch events”, states Caldwell.

The first run will be made only in the belicoso format. The plan is to release the cigar twice a year, each time in a different format. They will be made at Tabacalera William Ventura, in Tamboril, DR. Caldwell touts that these cigars are completely unique to anything he has smoked before. They will be full bodied, yet very refined. “They are going to be the fullest bodied cigar in the Caldwell Collection, yet palatable for most smokers.”

There is a limited amount of information being made available for the time being, but here is a vague breakdown: The first run will feature 500 10 count boxes. They are being made using a hybrid Connecticut Arapiraca Natural Maduro wrapper. The other blend information is being excluded for the time being.

Caldwell will be releasing a list of retailers who will be carrying the cigar in the coming weeks.

 

Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve on the way from Drew Estate

 

Drew Estate announced an exclusive manufacturing agreement with Pappy & Company. Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve will be produced at Drew Estate’s Estelí factory. Blended with tobaccos selected by Jonathan Drew, the medium-plus-strength cigar will feature an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers. It is the perfect choice for pairing with any of the Van Winkle bourbon and rye products.
